Why did you start studying?

“Because I recognised that my work with my students would really benefit from being qualified to teach Estill Voice Training. The knowledge you have to accrue and the standards you have to achieve were something that excited and motivated me.”

What are you doing now?

“I have passed Phase One of the CMT Examination and I am waiting to take the Pedagogy Testing of Phase Two.”

Did you hit any problems?

“Yes! But actually the problems are gifts because they highlight the areas that once improved will make me a better voice user and a better teacher. So I have welcomed struggling with particular Voiceprints or teaching myself how to write in detail about the Estill Model (we are so used to verbally communicating it). It is through studying and improving problem areas that will have really helped to equip me for gaining my new qualification.”

What’s your top tip?

“Don’t be attached to ‘passing’. Be committed. It’s the process and learning experience of the Pathway that makes the qualification what it is. Sometimes you have to fall off the bike to learn to balance – just like we have to experience constriction before we might learn to retract!”

Juliette successfully completed the Phase One of the Pathway in May 2007 and became a Certified Master Teacher Candidate.
